For those who can read German this website provides some very useful resources on rural history in Austria. The site includes a Rural History Newsletter with information on new publications, conference announcements, workshops, new websites and other news related to rural history, environmental history, history of science and related fields. Furthermore the site presents information on the Institutes publications, research projects, seminars and workshops and a list of relevant links. Finally the institute also hosts a series of archival collections related to rural history and descriptions of these can be found on the site.

Land & People, University of Otago

The History of Land Utilisation and the development of Rural Society in New Zealand. This site gives some idea of the work of Tom Brooking and his research group undertaken in the history department at the University of Otago. The site provides an overview of their research interests including responses to and representations of the changing landscape; land settlement; the impact of farming upon landscape and indigenous people; the impact of goldmining on rural landscapes; environmental history and the history of forestry in New Zealand and the Pacific.

The Network in Canadian History and Environment (NiCHE) promotes and supports collaboration among Canadian scholars working in environmental history and related fields. The website provides information about the activities of NiCHE, such as workshops, summer schools and it contains a directory of Canadian environmental historians. It is a first port of call to find out more about research in Canadian environmental history.

Nordic Environmental History Research Network

The Nordic Environmental History Research Network is an initiative funded by the Norwegian Research council. It aims to support knowledge exchange and professional development of environmental historians in the Nordic countries. The participants include researchers and students in five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Linked to the site is a series of workshops which will explore how to grow environmental history as a discipline, how Nordic environmental history can and should be written, and identify future collaborative projects and funding sources. The site gives an overview of the programmes of the workshops and acts as a way of disseminating some of the outcomes. In addition the site has a number of useful resources including a Nordic Environmental History Collaborative Bibliography and a list of conference announcements and organizations.

The Sea and the Cities. A Multidisciplinary Project on Environmental History.

The Sea and the Cities website presents the results of a project that studied the environmental history of urban water pollution and protection in the Baltic Sea region in the 19th and the 20th century. Altough thhe title suggests a wider merit the site is strongly focussed upon tow aspects of water pollution: the consequences for cities surrounding the Baltic Sea and marine life and the development of waste water treatment. Articles on these topics can be downloaded as PDF files. A good source for material related to water pollution issues in the Baltic region.
